Isis Women's Resource Centre

The Isis International Women's Resource Centre managed by the Governance, Citizenship and Democracy Programme (GCD) is located at the ground floor of "Bahay ni Isis". The Resource Centre houses a comprehensive specialised collection of women and development materials. Our books, periodicals, country files, vertical files, special materials, audio-visual collection cover a wide range of issues such as economy and work, development, reproductive health, violence against women, communication and information, etc. The Resource Centre offers circulation, reserve, reference services and reader's advisory services.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday
9:00AM - 12:00PM
1:00PM - 5:00PM

(except public holidays and Isis International Manila's year-end inventory and break)

Note: there will be a break in service from 12:00-1:00 pm, the Resource Centre will remain open for browsing)

SERVICES

  • Bibliographic & Referral Services. The Resource Centre will provide assistance in locating online and off-line information, bibliographies, annotations, and even classic articles on various issues. We can respond to request for information by mail and e-mail.
  • Computerised library services.
    WILMA or Web-based Information & Library Management System, a user-friendly Resource database is available for use.
    HURES (Human Resource Database) contains information on over 5,000 women's groups and networks, individuals and institutions supporting women's activities worldwide. The staff would gladly provide you the information you need.
  • Internet access. Researchers will have access to the Internet for free. Rotation or taking turns is very much encouraged since we only have two computers available to the public.
  • Photocopying Service. Only 10% of the pages of a book can be reproduced. Photocopying charges a minimum of P1.00 per page for short bond and P1.25 per page for long bond.
  • Meeting Place. We can now accommodate small (up to 5 persons only) group meetings for women in the Resource Centre without charge.
  • Internship. We accept students and NGO workers who want to learn the operations and management of a Women's Resource Centre. Interns will have hands-on training on cataloguing, indexing, abstracting, film/book reviewing, databasing, and other library work uch as collection development and reference service.
  • Announce. (a.k.a. announce at isiswomen dot org), a mailing list that has more than 200 Metro Manila-based subscribers composed of Isis library members, researchers, women's organisations, and non -government organisations. Subscribers to the list receive information on fora , job announcements, invitations and urgent appeals.

Periodicals, Country Files, Vertical Files, and References

A broad and international collection of these materials are available and are classified as room use only, that is, they cannot be taken out of the Resource Centre.

Audio-visual Materials

A collection of interesting and rare VHS and cassette tapes is available to members. The collection is strictly for Room Use Only. However, the Resource Centre will allow members to take out the VHS tapes from the library for workshops and training or for classroom use. An official letter stating the nature and purpose of the request is required. The borrowing member will sign a contract for the loan.

Poster Collection

Mounted posters can be borrowed for exhibitions. The duration depends on mutually agreed length of time.

Reservation for books, posters and use of audio-visual materials can be made in person or by phone on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Reminders for Using the Resource Centre

  • Conversations can only be tolerated up to a certain decibel level.
  • Food and beverages should be consumed outside the Resource Centre. This is to prevent accidental spillage on the books and materials.
  • No smoking inside the Resource Centre.
  • Children below 15 years old should be guided by parents or by an adult at all times.

All patrons are requested to fill-up the query form after using the Resource Centre for Isis to respond more effectively and efficiently. Please feel free to ask for assistance from the following staff:
